This year, KSMH will commemorate the UN Day for Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December 2009, through an activity that is relevant to the ongoing constitutional and institutional reforms.
The 3rd December 2009, happens to be at a time when members of the public have 30 days to debate and give their views on the draft constitution.
In recognition of the fact that most of the KSMH initial submissions to the Committee of Experts have not been captured in the draft constitution, KSMH have found it important to use this occasion to present to the Minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs a memorandum with provisions persons with mental disabilities would like entrenched in the draft constitution. All the proposals in the memorandum are in line with the provisions found in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that Kenya has signed and ratified.
The memorandum will be uploaded on this link on the 3rd December 2009 once it is presented to the Minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs.
